When Can You Get Shiny Rayquaza?
The shiny Rayquaza, sporting its iconic black scales, will make its appearance in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet from December 20, 2024, to January 5, 2025. Players will need to challenge and defeat this legendary dragon in a 5-Star Tera Raid Battle to capture it. But that’s not all—there’s a whole lineup of events taking place before the arrival of Rayquaza, so get ready for a jam-packed few weeks in the Paldea region.
Upcoming Tera Raid Battle Events
Before shiny Rayquaza swoops in, trainers can participate in three separate sets of Tera Raid Battles, featuring different Pokémon. Here’s the schedule:
- November 29 – December 5: Corviknight and Bellibolt will be the main stars of the first raid event.
- December 6 – December 12: Azumarill and Clodsire step up for the second raid challenge.
- December 13 – December 19: Annihilape and Kingambit take the spotlight in the final raid event leading up to the big showdown with Rayquaza.
These events offer a great opportunity to build your team, gather resources, and prepare for the legendary encounter.
Mass Outbreak Events Across the Regions
In addition to the Tera Raids, players will also encounter special Mass Outbreaks in different regions of the game. Here’s what to look out for:
- Paldea Region (until December 5): Keep an eye out for Tinkatink outbreaks, where the Pokémon will have the Ferocious Mark.
- Kitakami Region (until December 12): Wooper will be making appearances with the Absent-Minded Mark, offering a unique catch for collectors.
- Blueberry Academy (until December 19): Girafarig outbreaks will feature Pokémon with the Intellectual Mark, a rare and special marking.
These outbreaks are a great way to catch marked Pokémon, adding a unique touch to your collection.
Featured Pokémon During the Rayquaza Event
While the main attraction is shiny Rayquaza, there will be other Pokémon to watch for during the event window:
- Paldea Region: Cetoddle will be roaming around, giving trainers a chance to catch this adorable Ice-type Pokémon.
- Kitakami Region: Carbink will make its appearance, a rare find for many players.

The celebration isn’t limited to Scarlet & Violet. Shiny Rayquaza will also be featured in a Multi Battle campaign in Pokémon UNITE this December. It’s a great opportunity for fans of the mobile game to join in on the festivities and snag this stunning shiny Pokémon.
