Summary
- Rumors suggest Microsoft may release a partial Halo collection on PS5, not the full collection.
- Halo 5: Guardians and Halo Infinite are not included in The Master Chief Collection bundle.
For months, rumors have been swirling about the Halo series landing on PS5, alongside other Xbox hits like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Gears of War, and Microsoft Flight Simulator. Initially, people thought Microsoft would bring over the entire Halo: The Master Chief Collection to PS5, but that might not be the case.
On The Xbox Two podcast, The Verge’s Tom Warren hinted that Microsoft is likely planning a partial release rather than the full collection. According to him, not every Halo game may be included—though he didn’t reveal many details.
To recap, Halo: The Master Chief Collection features these titles:
• Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary
• Halo 2 Anniversary
• Halo 3
• Halo 3: ODST
• Halo 4
• Halo Reach
When the collection first launched on Xbox One, only the first four games were available. Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach were added later in updates. Although the collection had its share of problems at launch—especially with multiplayer modes—those issues have since been ironed out.
When the collection arrived on PC, the games were released gradually over 11 months, from December 2019 to November 2020. Microsoft might be planning a similar rollout for PS5 (and possibly even for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2), instead of releasing everything on one big day.
It’s worth noting that Halo 5: Guardians and Halo Infinite, which came out after The Master Chief Collection, aren’t part of this bundle. There’s also buzz about a potential remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, and some chatter suggests that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake might be coming soon. Meanwhile, Microsoft has already scheduled Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle for a PS5 launch in the next few weeks.
What do you think? Would you prefer to see the Halo games roll out gradually, or all at once? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
It would be exciting to see Halo games on PS5, even if they’re released gradually. It gives players time to enjoy each game fully and build anticipation for the next one.
