When Another Crab’s Treasure launched earlier this year on the Nintendo Switch, we were ready to love its quirky, ocean-themed take on the Soulslike genre. However, performance issues held the game back, leaving players frustrated. Thankfully, Aggro Crab Games has just rolled out a major update designed to fix those problems, and it looks like this could be the patch that turns things around.

The latest update, version 1.0.103.9, focuses heavily on optimizing performance. According to a recent post from the developer, the game has been “significantly optimized,” with frame rate improvements across nearly every part of the experience. If performance hiccups made you set the game aside, now might be the perfect time to give it another shot.

Let’s dive into the full patch notes to see exactly what’s been improved.

Patch Notes: Another Crab’s Treasure Ver. 1.0.103.9

Release Date: December 3, 2024

Optimization

The wait is over! Every area of the game has received major performance improvements. From reducing rendered geometry to optimizing shaders and fog effects, Aggro Crab has worked tirelessly to smooth out gameplay. Particular attention was given to areas that previously suffered from severe frame rate drops, which should now provide a much more stable and enjoyable experience.

Here’s what’s been optimized:

  • Reduced rendering load by optimizing in-game geometry and shaders.
  • Improved performance in areas notorious for low frame rates.
  • Refined gameplay code to reduce stutters.

Bug Fixes

In addition to performance improvements, this patch tackles a variety of bugs that impacted gameplay. Here are some of the key fixes:

  • NPCs Reinstated: Several NPCs that were missing—particularly in late-game sections—are now back where they belong.
  • Game Crashes: Fixed an issue where killing a blue pufferfish could cause crashes.
  • Umami Crystals Exploit: Addressed situations where Umami crystals could infinitely regenerate upon restarting the game.
  • UI Fixes: Corrected bugs where the Shell UI wouldn’t reflect language changes immediately.
  • Physics Glitches: Issues with tools like the Felix Cube and the Scrap Hammer causing strange physics reactions have been resolved.
  • Soft Locks: Prevented instances where players could get trapped, including scenarios involving boss fights and climbing mechanics.
  • Boss Behavior: Numerous adjustments ensure bosses behave as intended, from falling off arenas to improper grab mechanics.
  • Other Fixes: From infinite loading screens to Kril’s animations freezing, a range of smaller bugs has been squashed.

Balance Changes

Aggro Crab also made several balance adjustments to refine gameplay:

  • Hammer Adjustments: Slightly nerfed the hammer by increasing its attack cooldown.
  • Electric Damage: Rubber Band now halves electric damage but no longer prevents electric stuns.
  • Enemy Tweaks: Damage and abilities for several enemies, including the Stunpounder and Praya Dubia, have been rebalanced.
  • Boss Enhancements: Late-game bosses now have more health and refined attack patterns.

New Features

Exciting new features have been added to enhance the player experience:

  • Map Functionality: You can now move and zoom in on the map, making it easier to navigate and admire the game’s art.
  • Adaptations Without Forks: Speedrunners rejoice—Kril can now use Adaptations even without a fork equipped.

Level Design Improvements

  • Fixed various level exploits, soft locks, and unintended shortcuts across all areas.

Localization Updates

Improved translations for multiple languages, correcting errors and refining dialogue.

If you were one of the many who shelved Another Crab’s Treasure due to performance issues, this patch might be the game-changer you were waiting for. The enhanced frame rates, bug fixes, and added features make it worth diving back into this charming underwater adventure.
