Genshin Impact has finally unveiled its latest 5-star character, Varesa, set to make her playable debut in Version 5.5. A brand-new addition to the ever-expanding roster, Varesa hails from the Collective of Plenty, bringing with her a fresh playstyle and a unique role in the game’s meta. Despite having no prior appearances in the story, she has already generated a massive amount of hype—and a bit of controversy—among the player base.

For a while, many fans expected Iansan to be the primary 5-star representation of her tribe, so Varesa’s reveal as the headliner took some by surprise. This initially led to some disappointment, with certain players feeling that Iansan was being sidelined. However, once the beta for Version 5.5 began and players got a taste of both Varesa’s and Iansan’s kits, the skepticism quickly turned into excitement. Not only do the two characters complement each other well in battle, but both seem poised to become powerful and highly sought-after units.

Varesa and Iansan – A Dynamic Duo

From what beta testers have seen so far, Varesa and Iansan bring a lot to the table in terms of synergy and individual power. Varesa is shaping up to be a unique Plunge hypercarry, a playstyle rarely seen in Genshin Impact. Meanwhile, Iansan has been designed in a way that could finally give players a viable alternative to Bennett in specific team compositions. The fact that neither of their kits has been nerfed or drastically altered in the beta suggests that HoYoverse is confident in their designs, giving players hope that they’ll enter the game as strong as they currently seem.

Though gameplay leaks have already made their way onto social media, HoYoverse has now officially introduced Varesa via Genshin Impact’s Reddit account. According to the reveal, Varesa is an orchard owner and a warrior deeply connected to the Collective of Plenty. She wields an Electro Vision and fights using a Catalyst, though her combat style is far from traditional Catalyst users like Lisa or Yae Miko. Inspired by the moves of Mexican luchadoras, Varesa’s fighting style is full of raw physicality and powerful airborne attacks, making her stand out from the crowd.

Who is Varesa?

  • Name: Varesa
  • Title: Strength in Serenity
  • Rarity: 5-star
  • Vision: Electro
  • Weapon: Catalyst
  • Constellation: Mascara Luctatori

Players will get their first in-game introduction to Varesa by completing the Tribal Chronicles for the Collective of Plenty, which will be part of the upcoming patch. While there’s a chance she could also play a role in the Flagship Event, details on that are still scarce. What we do know is that the event will take place in Natlan, setting the stage for even more lore surrounding this fiery new region.

If you’re planning to pull for Varesa, you might want to start saving your Primogems now. She is expected to be featured in the first half of Version 5.5’s Event Banners, meaning she’ll likely be available right after the Furina and Wriothesley banners wrap up in Version 5.4. This makes resource management especially important for players who are eyeing multiple upcoming characters.

How Varesa Fits Into the Meta

From a gameplay standpoint, Varesa has the potential to be one of the strongest Electro hypercarries we’ve seen so far. Her kit heavily favors Plunge Attack mechanics, which is a rarity in Genshin Impact. Paired with characters like Furina, Iansan, and Xianyun, she could form an extremely potent team composition. Players who enjoy high-damage, aggressive playstyles may find her particularly rewarding to build and master.

Her Signature Weapon, Vivid Notions, is designed to optimize her Plunge-heavy playstyle, providing key boosts to her Attack and Energy Recharge. However, for those unwilling to spend resources on the Weapon Banner, Skyward Atlas is looking like a solid alternative.

What’s Next for Varesa?

Genshin Impact Version 5.5 is expected to launch on March 28, 2025, meaning we still have several weeks of reveals and teasers ahead. In the coming days, HoYoverse will likely drop a character demo and a dedicated story teaser, giving players an even deeper look into Varesa’s lore, abilities, and personality.

With her unique background, dynamic combat style, and powerful kit, Varesa is already shaping up to be one of the most exciting additions to the game in a long time. Whether you’re a collector, a lore enthusiast, or someone looking for a fresh main DPS, she’s definitely a character worth keeping an eye on.

Are you planning to pull for Varesa, or are you saving up for another character down the line? Let us know your thoughts!
